An exploration of the concept that every aspect of existence is complex and intertwined with our ancestors. Being descendants of Africa, it isn’t uncommon to hear the term endearingly used “king” when speaking to males within my culture. That choice of word radiates and offers a beautiful literal and metaphorical meaning.

The three boys are a visual interpretation of a hybrid of worlds. The three figures are meant to depict the three Pyramids of Giza in Egypt named Khafre, Khufu and Menkaure. The pyramids were built for three rulers. The subjects eyes glow gold to represent an internal depiction of spirituality and development in the realm of complete understanding. Promoting the idea and statement of Black Lives Matter and even more specifically Black boys matter, this piece is an ode to the strength, ancestral past and complexity of Black American males.
